A Spiritual Pilgrimage: Part 2
by Diane Forestell
A group of ‘pilgrims’ were traveling to the sacred sites of France. When the group left Paris the next day the tour group drove to the city of Chartres. Tom remarked that the energies were so strong driving through this town that he could easily feel the shift within him. After checking into a former monastery that is now a hotel, the group walked up the hill to the 900 year old Chartres Cathedral. The group was taking a tour of the cathedral and had been granted special permission to “walk” Chartres' famous
labyrinth set in the stone floor of the church.
They sat quietly in anticipation on Chartres Cathedral’s wide stone steps amid the old buildings of the charming town waiting for their tour guide. Diane, relaxed and meditative, looked up to see Mary again appear before her on the steps quietly adjusting her veil. Mary said that in her time they lowered their veils when they went into temple. Mary went on to explain that when the nuns walked
this Labyrinth they asked questions of God on the way into the center of the Labyrinth and received answers as they walked
out. She said it isn’t necessary to remove your shoes.
Mary then told Diane that she wouldn’t be with them at each place they visited on this trip. Mont St. Michel wasn’t her thing, but she would see them again, later in the trip.
The group stirred as Bruno, the tour guide, approached. Inside the church, the guide led the group down to the crypt. Diane noticed Mary standing next to him adjusting her veil as he pointed
out that enshrined in a beautiful case is a piece of Mary’s veil. She just smiled sweetly.
Upstairs, at the Labyrinth, everyone removed their shoes preparing to walk the sacred circle. As Diane approached its entrance Mary appeared walking in front of her. Mary turned and said, “I will take you through.”
They walked a few yards and Mary turned and said, “Ask your first question." A question spontaneously formed in Diane’s mind, “How will I know God?” They walked a while and then Diane heard the response, “Through wisdom.”
Again they walked deeper into the Labyrinth and Mary turned and said, “Ask your second question.” Diane walked and thought a few minutes and asked, “How will I know this wisdom?” They walked and contemplated a few more minutes and then Diane heard, “Through thoughts, acts, words.”
Diane doesn’t remember the third question that was asked, but when Mary turned the fourth time and said ask your final question, Diane asked, “How will I achieve divinity?” Diane then heard, “You already have.” And at that moment they turned and walked into the center of the Labyrinth. Diane felt a radiant beam of divine light bathe her as she felt joy, peace and love fill her.
As they walked away from the center of the Labyrinth Mary turned and said, “To know it, understand love, truth, honor, and judgment.”
Diane continued to walk and ponder this when Mary turned to her and said that she wanted her to experience God. Mary asked Diane to look into her eyes. Diane looked deep into Mary’s eyes and saw the entire universe within. It looked like the night sky with stars twinkling. Diane floated in the vast universe that was within Mary. Mary told Diane to hold this within.
Diane felt like she floated the rest of the way out of the Labyrinth. And for the next two days she felt like everything she saw was filtered through that image of the universe.
